I thrive off of the architecture, noise, people, hustle-n-bustle, and all the buzz that comes from a big city. It is one of the reasons why I love traveling to London, Chicago and New York. You can’t help but feel ALIVE!
Like other areas in Los Angeles, #DTLA has its own vibe, lifestyle and energy. It is one of the many qualities about living in Southern California, you can drive 30 minutes away to another neighborhood and feel like you are in a whole new state (with great weather!).
Here is a list of my downtown highlights and hotspots that I think everyone should check out when they come to the City of Angels.
The Staples Center is home to many large events, such as concerts, sporting events, shows and plays. The mega arena is also surrounded by bars, restaurants and hotels that would help make an evening away complete. Go to stubhub.com and see which one of your favorite bands is performing! This is me in front of the Staples Center two years ago right before my boyfriend surprised me with Madonna tickets! It was one of the best nights of my life.
This section occupies a huge part of the city and offers countless clothing vendors of all sorts. While you are down there, go to “The Alley” which is between Santee Street and Maple Street for some “cash only” deals.
During my early years in LA, my former boss, Giuliana, sent me to the diamond district to pick up her wedding band she had designed. I was so surprised to see all the different jewelry stores. This is the spot if you are searching for a certified loose diamond, gemstone or ring.
Located at 111 South Grand Avenue, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is a magical must-see structure! In 1987, Lillian Disney (Walt’s widow) donated $50 million to build the performance art venue which was designed by Frank Gehry. It now serves as home to the LA Philharmonic. So cool!
DTLA is a pub crawl haven and the perfect location for a girls night out. A few of my favorite hot spots for a stiff drink include; Seven Grand, Perch, and Cole’s. Below are a couple pics from last night over looking the city while we stood on top of Perch’s kickass rooftop (perchla.com).
My pals are very picky when it comes to dining and food. Thankfully, DTLA has some of the best restaurants in all of California. Whatever your palate desires, you will certainly have a handful of places to choose from that will serve up a delicious meal. We ate at Chef Josef Centeno’s yummy Tex-Mex creation, Bar Ama’. Look at some of the dishes from last night. OMG.
I love the feeling of getting away from your usual space and shacking up in a big cozy bed. Downtown Los Angeles has tons of inviting hotels with some Hollywood history. For example, The Millennium Biltmore Hotel was built in 1923 and has since appeared in films such as Ghostbusters, Chinatown, Splash, Bugsy, Wedding Crashers, The Italian Job, Dave, True Lies and many more!
If you live in LA and planning a big party, make sure you swing by the Flower District for some well priced flowers.

Going downtown is a good reason to freshen up on your photography. It is one of those places in Los Angeles where you can really “capture the moment.” What do you think of my black and white pics? My friends are so darling.
Whether you are on the 50th floor or 5th floor, DTLA has incredible views. I had to share this video I found online. It is an amazing clip of a drone flying through the city!!
